Giving up the Fantasy

So I guess it's time to bring the randomness that is Shooting for Old People to a close. 33 comments though, easily my best, and such a better topic that sexual representation in sermons. (ooo that was a bit harsh, oh well)

Anyways I haven't been blogging for the last sort time because I found a new 'addiction'. As some of you know I'm a big gamer, and I got sucked into playing an online game, World of Warcraft. Before all you people yell, DEMON! Be gone with you, (My mum being one). This has been interesting to see how people meet and treat each other in this 'fantasy' world.

And to buck the trend of everyone that play these games being geeky kids, in the group that I play with we have an American family living in Germany, that has an 8 month old daughter that grabs the keyboard when mum is playing and randomly types messages, so often that everyone knows and says hi to the infamous Jenn when she comes online. We have another friend that has asked the group to help with her AA accountability, so when she comes online there are people that check up on her. Also another few that I have given people advice on random issues with. Do people go into this virtual world to ignore there problems in the outside world? Not as much as people think they do.

I may never ever meet these people in real life, but to know that I spent some time and journeyed with them, is mind blowing to say the least.

What am I really going on about? Well as of Wednesday I am not part of this world for 40 days.

Yes people Lent is upon us. And while giving up WOW is one of my fasts, as well as that I have given up Lemonade/Soda/Pop and Pizza (the same as last year) and maybe a few other ones, quickly trying to work it out.

Is it going to be hard? yeah but its also going to help me get my priorities straight as I now have a new job. (only 1 day a week but its a start)

So I guess my question is... What did you give up for lent? or what will you, now you know?

I happen to know for a fact that several people were brought to know God through online gaming so throw that at whoever yells demon. As for lent...maybe I'll give up chocolate *she says as she scarfs the last bite of her Skor Bar*. And I do agree with your last blog being better than the other you alluded to...he wanted controversy, you just wanted laughs. Classy.

I've always missed lent... I usually find out about 3 days before it ends that it's been happening... hmm... note to self must locate calander. Maybe I'll give up fast food... perhaps I should give up sitting down or driving and get fit with some exercise...

I gave up pop last year! And never really went back to drinking it alot, guess it's good for your health....anyways, this year I'm not so much giving up as I am gaining. I'm going to try and pray for 2 hours a day and exercise twice a week. I definitly feel the last one will be the tough thing to do!!

Well, I couldn't come up with anything as good as last years giving up MSN and my cell phone...

but I decided to go with fries, caffienated drinks (it's already killing me...these stupid early mornings at 614!) and spending money on myself unless I need to. And I think there might have been one more suggested by someone else....

Chocoloate, Potatoes and Cheese.

Pretty much my three favourite things. It's a wonder I'm not 300 pounds.

Sorry Matt: No more grilled cheese for me until Easter...although I did gear up for this lentin season by having grilled cheese at least 4 times last week!! (I only had bread and cheese left in the cupboard, honest!)

I'm not going as extreme as I did two years agowhen I triedto give up sugar for lent(minus sugar that is in fruit and other essential foods)... boy that was fun...
This year I am giving up junk food(like chips, chocolate, sweets, pop,and other such crap)... I've also decided this is a great time to do "The Purpose Driven Life"... should be good times!
By the way... best of luck to everyone on keeping their goals for lent.
